Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wasps to join our experienced sports medical team. We are looking to recruit a Senior Soft tissue Therapist with a proven track record in elite sport and experience of working preferably in a professional Rugby environment. The right candidate will be able to immediately add value to our forward thinking and dynamic sports medical team.

This opportunity has come at a very exciting point in the club's history and will coinciding with our 2nd season based in the Coventry area.

Role Summary

The Senior Soft Tissue Therapist will primarily be responsible for provision of Sports Massage Therapy to the senior players. Assessment findings and treatment outcomes will be communicated to the Head Physiotherapist to assist in the overall injury prevention and management program. He or she must be able to identify, treat and succinctly report any potential soft tissue injuries to the appropriate team member. The Soft tissue therapist will also be responsible for the provision of soft tissue therapy and touch line assistance for all Premiership fixtures, European fixtures and domestic & overseas training camps.

Duties include

Sports Massage

Provide and oversee the application of soft tissue therapy to playing squad

Provide match day massage therapy for 1st team home and away fixtures

Work at such times, including on public holidays, as necessary to ensure that the Players needs are supported.

Provide and oversee the application of soft tissue therapy during overseas and domestic training camps and tours

Daily updating of electronic medical records in accordance with minimum standards

Assist in preparation of medical equipment for match days

Provide monthly treatment report for Medical Co-ordinator

Plan and organize recovery sessions

Contribute to development of junior staff

Contribute to departmental CPD

Match Day

Organize player treatments pre and post-match

Organisation of all pitch-side emergency equipment

Organisation of all other medical equipment required for match day

Care of players pitch side

Escorting injured players to hospital following injury on a match day if required

Assist doctor with blood spill and concussion

Injury prevention

Contribute to the injury prevention program

General

Maintaining a good working relationship with all key personnel, colleagues and players as well as outside the organisation, in order to support and promote Wasps.

To keep abreast of current best practices, maintain CPD and take an active role in the departments CPD programme.

To carry out any other duties that may be required by management and are within the post-holders capabilities.

Must have:

Sport and Remedial Massage qualification to a minimum Level 4 Standard or equivalent Therapist qualification/registration

First Aid at Work certificate

Level 4 or above membership of the Sports Massage Association

Up to date indemnity insurance

Residence within commutable distance of Coventry

Highly desirable:

Evidence of work as a Soft tissue Therapist with Elite Rugby players

Training Ground Laundry Assistant

Reports To:        Kit Manager

Term:                   One year contract with three months’ probation. Start date 1st July 2017

Location:             Wasps Rugby Club Training Ground, Binley Woods, Coventry

Wasps acquired the Ricoh Arena in October 2014 and finished this season top of the Premiership. Wi Wasps is one of the largest rugby clubs in Europe with the home ground at the world class Ricoh Arena.

About the role

This is a part-time position based at the training ground at Broad Street Rugby. Hours and days of work are scheduled around training and match-days which may include weekend working during the rugby season.

Key tasks will include;

  • As directed by the kit manager ensure that the laundry service at Wasps is maintained and delivered to a very high standard and quality.
  • To work in the kit room and laundry room, this will include washing, drying, folding and putting away kits from training and matches.
  • To cover the laundry service of all the following: -
    • Training Kits
    • Towels
    • Bibs
    • GPS vests
    • Physio Towels & Bed sheets
    • Chefs Whites
    • Kitchen cloths and Kitchen Towels
  • Carry out laundry/cleaning duties as directed by the kit manager
  • To comply with COSHH regulations and ensure the correct use of PPE is used
  • Maintain high standards of work ensuring the working area is kept clean and tidy at all times.

The successful candidate

  • Will be flexible and reliable with the ability to meet the strict deadlines within a sometimes-pressurised environment

Hours to Work

This role is 5 out of 7 days per week, following the Rugby schedule. This may include some Saturdays and Sundays. Hours are flexible but likely to be 3pm – 6pm per week day.

What’s on offer?

You will receive £7.50 per hour which will be paid monthly in arrears and holiday will be accrued across your working hours.

About the role

This is a proactive role targeted to make 70 outbound calls daily and book 18 weekly appointments for the Hospitality Sales Executives to meet with prospective clients.

Key tasks will include;

  • To pro-actively source new business to deliver revenue into the Hospitality Sales Team
  • To increase our marketable database via outbound telephone calls
  • To consistently achieve a high volume of quality calls daily the ability to communicate with ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ leads
  • To be responsible for lead generation through new business acquisition by prospecting, qualifying and developing new business specialising in hospitality sales
  • To research companies and find appropriate contacts to approach
  • Manage, update and maintain the client database whilst always thinking about data capture

Job Title: Senior Academy Transitional Coach

Department: Rugby

Manager: Academy Manager

Term: Two year contract with three month probationary period; start date TBC

Position Overview

The purpose of this role is to provide the coaching and management of Senior Academy players.

Key Activities

  • Provide skill development sessions that include, core skills, position specific skills and game understanding during the training week, which includes the organisation, planning and delivery of these sessions.
  • Provide regular written development plans for Players, planned in conjunction with the Academy Manager and S&C staff.
  • Attend, review and provide feedback of games played by the players, both for Wasps, Loan Clubs and at Junior International level.
  • Conduct regular player performance feedback sessions with all Senior Academy players.
  • To attend meetings as required by the Director of Rugby and Head of Recruitment.
  • To contribute positively to the Academy environment and culture.
  • Full commitment to developing the players on and off the field, assisting with resolving any day to day issues and ensuring they are supported within the team environment and during their rest periods.
  • To provide coaching support for the Wasps A team . To attend all A team games.
  • Deliver coaching sessions for the non 23 squad players as directed by the Wasps skills coach.
  • Support /assist coaching the Wasps Academy u18 and u16 teams when required to , by the Academy Manager.
  • Working hours required:
  • 5 days per week to include weekends; 7.5hrs a day following the Rugby schedule. Exact working schedule to be agreed with line manager.

Key Skills Required:

  • Level 3 or above RFU Coaching Award
  • Previous Coaching experience at elite level
  • Preferably a specialist skill-set of Backs coaching and playing experience, however outstanding candidates will be also considered

Wasps Developing Player Programme (DPP)


“Providing high quality player development experiences, encouraging lifelong participation in the game and enabling those with potential to be clearly identified and supported.”

The Wasps Academy has responsibility for developing potential elite players in a geographical region that covers Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Coventry and Warwickshire, with a DPP Centre in each of the regions. The DPP’s are a step on the player development pathway, with successful players progressing into the Wasps Junior Academy.

With the continued development and expansion of the Wasps DPP we are looking to recruit for a number of roles across all of our regions.

Some of the roles will receive a small payment towards expenses, with other roles being on a volunteer basis. All successful applicants will receive Wasps kit as well as free access to CPD events run by Wasps.

The majority of the sessions will run weekly during the rugby season on Monday evenings. There will be approximately 20 sessions throughout the season.
