Background:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Wasps Academy into the future. The position of Academy Manager is currently vacant and the club is looking to appoint an individual with the appropriate skillset, passion and experience to devise, implement and deliver the strategic plan for the Wasps Academy.

The Wasps Academy forms part of the RFU/PRL Regional Academy network with the primary objective of identifying and developing the next generation of players for Wasps and England, servicing the geographical area of Warwickshire (part), Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire (part).

Wasps have in the last 18 months relocated to the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and are seeking a manager that can cement the clubs Academy within its new boundaries.

Role Summary:

The appointee will lead the operation of the academy, overseeing the personal and athletic development of identified academy athletes, whilst preparing them for a professional club playing career and developing them to challenge for places within England representative sides.

Initially the appointment will be made for a fixed term (negotiable), with good prospects for continuation thereafter. The remuneration package offered will reflect the significance of the role and the capabilities of the successful candidate.

Receptionist (Main Office)

 

Arena Coventry Ltd manage the Ricoh Arena on behalf of Wasps.  The Ricoh Arena is an international destination for business, entertainment and sport.  A truly multi-purpose venue located in the heart of the UK.

 

Main Purpose of the Role

As first point of contact for all visitors to the Ricoh Arena, the Receptionist will provide a professional, efficient, yet friendly welcome and direct incoming calls to the correct contact within the organisation or an appropriate delegate.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Administration Support

 

·    Manning the Office Reception area, greeting visitors, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately.  Taking car registration numbers for the parking system.

·       Organising refreshments as required for guests and meetings.

·       Answer, screen and forward incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed.

·       Maintain the Wasps, ACL and IEC Telephone List and distribute for use.

·      Monitoring the Ricoh Arena Info@ mailbox; responding to general requests and redirecting others to specific areas for response as required.

·       Open and distribute the post for Wasps, ACL, IEC on a daily basis.  Deal with small office deliveries.

·       Frank and take all outgoing post to Guest Services on a daily basis.  This will include standard post plus Recorded and Special Delivery as required.  Manage the post stock and add funds to the franking machine.

·       Monitor the stationery stocks and place orders to replenish these.  Place ad hoc stationery orders for special requests.  Check off deliveries and approve invoices for payment.

·       Arrange couriers for the team when required, keeping a log of collections and deliveries and signing off invoices.

·       Assist the EA to the Deputy Chairman and CEO / EA to the MD and Group HR Director with ad hoc requests.

·       Assist with preparations for Wasps matches, in particular Board Room Hospitality, with the EA to the Deputy Chairman and CEO.

·       Assist with arrangements for concerts, in particular VIP Hospitality, with the EA to the MD and Group HR Director.

·      Assist with arrangements for Events – e.g. company meetings such as the Quarterly Communications Breakfast.

·       Assist the Commercial Team with client parking and the packing and distribution of match day tickets

·       Assist with refreshment requests from the Executive Group

Knowledge and Experience

·       2 years’ experience in a customer facing role.

·       Proven administration experience

·       Educated to A Level or relevant experience.

Wasps Academy Lead Physiotherapist

Wasps is a professional rugby union team which competes in the Aviva Premiership, European Rugby Champions Cup and LV=Cup.

Wasps acquired the Ricoh Arena in October 2014 and have been playing all of their home games in Coventry since December 2014. Following the move to the Ricoh Arena the team have recently relocated their training ground from their base in London to a temporary training ground in Coventry which is located at Broadstreet Rugby Ground.

The Academy also have a further training location in Aylesbury.

Wasps now wish to recruit a full-time Wasps Academy Lead Physiotherapist to work with the Academy Team working across multiple Academy delivery sites. This role is offered on a two year fixed term contract.

About the role

To assist the Performance Manager in delivering the Athletic Performance Pathway of the Wasps England Rugby Academy. To implement and deliver the Medical Standards of Performance for the Wasps England Rugby Academy.  Including medical standards, rehabilitation, injury prevention, education (player/coach/parent) and specialised duties as required.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include;

· Assist the Performance Manager in the management of Wasps England Rugby Academy and support all players within the process.

· To lead on the delivery of the Wasps England Rugby Academy Medical Standards of Performance and ensuring that it is followed throughout the various delivery streams in the academy.

· To lead & manage the physiotherapy provision on the Senior Academy & Junior Academy programme.

· To manage and oversee the physiotherapy provision on the Developing Player Programme (DPP) and support the development of the medical staff within this.

· To monitor and record any injuries sustained from training and playing in accordance with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance.  This includes the type, frequency, mechanism and severity of injury and time lost from playing and training.

· Keep documentation on all aspects of injury management in line with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) guidelines.

· Perform musculoskeletal screenings, treatment, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation programming as required across the programme.

· In conjunction with the Performance Manager ensure all player tracking information is entered onto the RFU player tracking database, and all player details are maintained on internal databases.

· Work as part of a multi-disciplined team to ensure the highest level of support to all players within the Academy.

· To provide pitch-side first aid cover to RFU standards at both Academy matches and training sessions.

· Help to maintain programme player and staff discipline on and off the field to the highest standards and to administer the approved disciplinary procedures for programme members.

· Take an active role in the in-service professional development courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry/profession. 

· Undertake an appropriate programme of out-service courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry.

Qualification and Experience

· A BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years post graduate experience with at least 3 years working within a high performance environment.

· A postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential.

· CSP and HCPC registration.

· Proven experience of delivering to adolescent athletes, in managing and assisting their return and prevention of injury.

· A full driving license is essential for the role and candidates must have proof of right to work in the UK.

The successful candidate will be:

· A fantastic builder of relationships across a wide spectrum of people.

· A positive and effective communicator, both written and verbal to inspire confidence in those they engage with.

· Demonstrate engaging presentation skills as there will be a  need to regularly present to the Academy players, their parents, Wasps staff and other key stakeholders involved with the Academy (eg RFU, County staff etc).

· Always relentlessly positive, enthusiastic and dynamic in all their actions, willing to go the extra mile.

· Possess high levels of resilience as the role will involve unsociable hours and lots of face to face contact with Academy members, potential members etc.

· Be a champion for the Academy at all times and regularly promote the Academy to a variety of stakeholders.

· Be prepared, ready and open to challenging the status quo to consistently improve the Academy and question the why and the how.

Hours of work

This is a fulltime two year fixed term contract.

About the role

To assist the Lead Academy Physiotherapist in implementing and delivering the Medical Standards of Performance for the Wasps England Rugby Academy.  Including medical standards, rehabilitation, injury prevention, education (player/coach/parent) and specialised duties as required.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include;

· To liaise with the Academy Physiotherapist regarding progress of all injured players to ensure accurate and up to date injury information for all coaching staff.

· Be available to support the Academy Physiotherapists on match day cover to all academy fixtures including pitch side emergency care.

· Support & deliver the physiotherapy provision on the Junior Academy programme in line with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance.

· In conjunction with the Performance Manager and Academy Physiotherapist deliver the education programme for all members of the Junior Academy, Henley College Rugby and DPP programmes.

· Monitor and record any injuries both training and playing in accordance with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance. This includes the type, frequency, mechanism and severity of injury and time lost from playing and training.

· Keep documentation on all aspects of injury management in line with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) guidelines.

· Perform musculoskeletal screenings, treatment, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation programming as required by the Academy Physiotherapist.

· Liaise and report on a weekly basis to the Academy Physiotherapist in line with Medical Standards of Performance any assessment findings and treatment progressions.

· Liaise with coaches, parents, schools and players, keeping all parties updated on the player’s current injury status, rehabilitation and estimated time frame to return to play

· Assist the Academy Management to maintain player and staff discipline on and off the field to the highest standards. 

· Take an active role in the in-service professional development courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry/profession.

· Undertake an appropriate programme of out-service courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry.

Wasps Developing Player Programme (DPP)

“Providing high quality player development experiences, encouraging lifelong participation in the game and enabling those with potential to be clearly identified and supported.”

The Wasps Academy has responsibility for developing potential elite players in a geographical region that covers Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Coventry and Warwickshire, with a DPP Centre in each of the regions. The DPP’s are a step on the player development pathway, with successful players progressing into the Wasps Junior Academy.

With the continued development and expansion of the Wasps DPP we are looking to recruit for a number of roles across all of our regions.

Some of the roles will receive a small payment towards expenses, with other roles being on a volunteer basis. All successful applicants will receive Wasps kit as well as free access to CPD events run by Wasps.

The majority of the sessions will run weekly during the rugby season on Monday evenings. There will be approximately 20 sessions throughout the season.
