At the start of his rugby career, Armitage earned a scholarship to Wellington College, before joining the London Irish Academy. He made his debut against Sale Sharks in 2010, becoming the third Armitage brother to play for the Exiles and went on to make 43 appearances for the club.

The talented centre, who stands 6ft 5 inches tall and weighs in at over 17 and a half stone, also enjoyed spells with London Welsh, London Scottish and Toulon, before returning to London Irish. In 2015, after two years back with London Irish, he moved to London Welsh and now moves back to the Aviva Premiership this season with Wasps.
