Joe Launchbury's post-match reaction and all the key stats from a titanic European Champions Cup battle in France

After a huge physical battle in La Rochelle, which produced 78 points and 11 tries, Wasps skipper Joe Launchbury spoke to the media. Here's his thoughts on last weekend's round three clash, next Sunday's return fixture and Wasps' pool one hopes.

After a huge physical battle in La Rochelle, which produced 78 points and 11 tries, Wasps skipper Joe Launchbury spoke to the media:

Match Reaction:

“We are really pleased with the commitment and effort of the guys - when you come away in Europe that’s half the battle.

“We knew we were going to be in a physical battle, I thought we really gave it a good go. “Our discipline and execution let us down - there were a couple of yellow cards and a couple of charge-downs and against a quality side, it was always then going to be an uphill battle.

“Their intensity in attack, their offloads and their power runners are some of the best I’ve played against.

“They have a free-flowing game with lots of offloads. We looked hard at how we could restrict that in the week, but fair play to them, we came up against a real quality side.”

On next Sunday’s return match:

“There was certainly enough on both sides of the ball, especially the attacking side, to suggest we can get a win next weekend.

“We are going to give it everything we can. We love playing at home, it’s a big game and we will give it a good go. It will be a great challenge for us and I’m sure it will be a great game to watch.

“They have been a quality side for the last few years, their domestic form has been very strong and they have taken that into Europe.

“They are no secret to us. They have got a team packed full of great players and we will expect much the same next week. We will train hard and come out firing and give it our best shot.”

On Wasps’ European Champions Cup pool one hopes:

“That try bonus-point was the least we needed to take away from this game and we will see in a few weeks how important it is.

“We know now we have got to win our next few games to stand any chance of getting out of the group.”
