Haskell keen to get stuck back into Aviva Premiership action

James Haskell is keen to get stuck back into Aviva Premiership Rugby action after enjoying a week off while his teammates earned a dramatic 32-30 bonus-point win over Northampton Saints.

Matt Mullan burrowed over in the last play of the game to bring Wasps level with Jimmy Gopperth’s conversion clinching victory.

And Haskell, who featured in the European Champions Cup quarter-final defeat to Leinster, tipped his cap to the character shown by his side who top the Aviva Premiership Rugby table with three games to play.

Though not looking too far ahead, Haskell admitted reaching the Aviva Premiership final with Wasps for the first time since 2008 would be something special.

“I am one of the more experienced guys in the squad and I am getting older with each passing season,” said Haskell, who featured in all five of England’s RBS 6 Nations matches.

“I think earlier in my career I maybe took for granted the success we had at the club and thought it was always going to be that way.

“After a few years in the wilderness it would be great to get back to the Aviva Premiership Final.

“But our sole focus as rugby players is just the next game and for us that is Bristol.”

Wasps sit five points clear of Exeter Chiefs as they prepare to travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol Rugby on Sunday after recording a 70-22 victory over the West Country side in Round Three.

But Haskell called for improvements ahead of their Round 20 encounter with Bristol after they earned two valuable bonus points in defeat to Exeter Chiefs last weekend.

“It was obviously a good result to get the bonus-point win against Northampton Saints but we didn’t do it in the best fashion,” he said.

“We didn’t want to leave it so close but it was unbelievable character shown by the boys with Matt Mullan going over at the end.

“Credit to Northampton, they played well and scored five tries themselves.”

Tickets are now on sale for Wasps' final home game of the season against Saracens and are available at wasps.co.uk/tickets
